magic words

So as Rachel learns how to talk (but not well enough for all of us to understand what exactly she's trying to say) Ethan is having some real frustrations, trying to learn her new "lingo".

Here's their conversation today:

E: Rachel... will you bring me the truck?
R: YES!
E: Rachel, no! Bring me the one right there... under the train table. Do you see it?
R: Baby!
E: No. Its a truck. Would you bring it to me so I could play with it?
R: No... bye-bye! Go see Papa!
E: Rachel, you may NOT see Papa until you bring me my truck.
R: Yes! Baby! Pretty! See Nana!!
E: Rachel... are you smitching the subject? (he's totally copying me here -- smitching = switching)
R: Yes. Bye-bye! Go potty.
E: Rachel Kafryn (her middle name = Kathryn) You will need to obey me right now, Missy.
R: [lots of baby talk I have no idea how to type follows]
E: MOMMY??!!
I enter the room and point to the truck. "Rachel, go get the truck for Ethan, okay?"
She walks over, picks it up (as if she finally understands) and hands it to him.
He looks up at me with this adorable smile and says... "Mommy... you're like magic."

Gahh!! So cute!! The talking is amazing! Jenna has come alive with words lately, she's not quite putting strings together (she's trying) but she designates her preferences very well with "No" "Yes" "Up" "Down" "Off" and all the foods she likes. It's pretty awesome.
It's so cool Ethan and Rachel are so close in age...they'll be buddies for life (hopefully ;-)).

They are very good buddies. I think most siblings are, but yes... the closeness in age definitely helps. Ethan is becoming very protective of her, which is nice, but sometimes annoying. He doesn't like any strangers to talk to her AT ALL. He becomes very mad at them and goes over and does all the talking for her and shelters her and says "Its okay, Rachel. I'll take care of it." Its so funny! Where he gets these things, I'll never know.

Um, could you come over and deal with MY kids?? Maybe your magic words will work on Dan and Lizzy too. :o)

One Thousandth blog post + GIVEAWAY!!

This marks the  one thousandth blog post   for me !  If you added the blogging over at Jastef.net, I'm sure it would be far more, but I haven't blogged over there since Kara was a baby. For my simple mind, Blogger worked out much better for me. Sorry, husband.  I've been at this blogging thing for almost 8 years and I'm still not sick of it! I like to write {never thought I'd say that} and I really enjoy interacting with people; friends and then strangers who become friends.  Its great and its been a great way for us to share our day-to-day life with our families, since we moved.  Jason and I have been mulling around what I should do for a 1,000 blog post giveaway, just for fun. keeping the sickies away

Probably like most of you Moms, I've been sick of being sick throughout the winter. Its such a fun, holiday time of year and totally stinks when you're stuck inside, with illnesses. And, if you're not a fan of getting a vaccine for every little bug that goes around, you end up realizing you have to do your research to learn how to build up the immune systems and keep your brood healthy. I'm also learning that when it comes to sickness {we're talking sickness that won't cause death}, its actually good for our bodies to learn to fight things off naturally and not constantly running to get shots or drugs to cure us from ever getting sick again {which those shots don't do anyway}.  I'm no pro and my oldest child isn't even 7 yet, so I'm definitely not posting this to teach you ladies anything. And, for those of you with older kids, feel free to leave tips for how you keep your family healthy or natural ways to fight off colds and viruses.  ...
