ideas

I have kind of an odd question for you readers. I'm curious what you ladies typically eat for breakfast. I find that breakfast food NEVER fills me up and is often too sugary and leaves me feeling shaky and starving within and hour. I know eggs are probably a good thing to eat, but they're not my favorite. Maybe I could get a little more creative with them? I'm often times in a big hurry in the morning and so I grab yogurt and maybe a Z-bar, but come on... that's a terrible breakfast. So, if you care to, please share your ideas with me! I know they say breakfast is the most important meal of your day, so I'd like mine to be worth something. :)

I was never a big fan of eggs--until I was pregnant with Jozsef. Then I ate eggs every morning. Usually I'd put some mushroom, tomato, & cheese in and kind of scramble all of it up. Very tastey. The egg desire waned until I was pregnant with Nikolas, but this time eggs were simply fried or over easy. The egg desire didn't wane this time and even now I usually eat eggs and toast for breakfast fried or over easy. Sometimes I'll eat cereal, but mostly on days where I'm not really hungry in the morning. If I make pancakes for the kids, I add an egg into the batter for substance and then I either use real fruit syrup, real fruit jam or a fruit butter (sounds worse than it is) instead of syrup--any of the fake stuff is too much sugar and upsets my stomach. I'll be sure to have a cup of orange juice or silk to go with it to add substance. There's my take on breakfast! :-)

Fun question! I eat different things for breakfast b/c I like variety! I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal. Lots of protein in it and a little sweet. I also love eggs; but I cook them with spinach, mushrooms and some canadian bacon chopped up in it while it's cooking. I also eat instant oatmeal occasionally.

One of my favorites: I mix 1/4 C ricotta cheese with 2 Tbsp natural applesauce, sprinkle with cinnamon and spread it on an english muffin. Then broil it for a little bit; very yummy! If you want it a bit sweeter, you can add splenda or a little sugar to the mix.

So, there ya go! :)

I am TERRIBLE about eating breakfast...I usually get to it around 10. UGH. I too get hungry after I eat and seem to want to eat more on the days I have breakfast rather than the days that I don't.

I usualy have a bowl of Special K Red Berries, however I have found that the one breaky that fills me up the most, for the longest is a peice of toast with light cream cheese and an over easy egg on top. I cook the egg while the toast is toasting and then put the egg on top of my toast and mop up the runnyish yoke with the bread..yum. Proteins will make you go longer in the mornings!

You ladies all had some great ideas! I think eggs won out overall. :) I need to start taking a liking to them.

Gina - I remember when I was pregnant with Ethan I felt like I NEEDED eggs in the morning. Maybe its a boy thing?

I think I'm going to try some of these things you've all suggested and then maybe for quick on the go mornings (we have 3 of them a week) I will get a baggy of almonds, an apple and some yogurt. It just kills my energy level when I don't get a good breakfast to start off the day.

Thanks for sharing!

I've always been a big fan of eggs - pretty much any style. When I was pregnant with Jenna I ate a soft-boiled egg with sourdough toast almost every morning. Lately I've really been into an over easy egg with dark rye and a slice or two of Apple Gate Farms turkey bacon (it's unlike any other you've tried!).
Other than that - I make pancakes with flax meal, or cream of wheat. I've always loved cold cereal but it seems like especially lately, it leaves me feeling hungry and light-headed after like 30 minutes. Not filling enough.
They say you should make breakfast your biggest meal of the day, so don't skimp on healthy calories!
Ezekiel Bread, Ezekial Bread! It is a complete protein. Excellent!

Very simple for me - a bowl of cold cereal every morning. I either have a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats or Cheerios with honey on top. It fills me up and I never feel like snacking between breakfast and lunch. My problem is snacking between lunch and dinner!:)

That's funny, Denise. The Honey Bunches of Oats are what make me hungry and shaky within the hour. Weird how we're all so different.

I agree with Jess - Ezekial bread (you can get it at TJ's) is SO good and with something delicious on top - it makes a great breakfast and it's healthy and filling!

I picked some of it up today at TJ's and I'm going to try it tomorrow. I'll let you know if I like it. It looks like the type of bread that my very loved hummus would go well with. :)

I usually scrambled a whole bunch of sausage ahead of time and just keep it ready in the fridge. Then, I have a couple scrambled eggs and through some sausage in- makes it so quick and so much more satusfying than just eggs. Also, if I have enough fruit around the house I just make a quick fruit smoothie with a little OJ in it.

If I need really really quick, I have granola type cereal. Other cereals just make me more hungry, but Nature's Path (Most health food stores and Nob Hill) is very tasty and really good for you too.

I'm going to try that Ezekiel bread because of all these rave reviews! Right now our favorite is Mini Wheats, which I eat in the morning with the kids. Then, I'll usually have a toasted pbnj around 10am for my 2nd breakfast! I like quick and easy breakfasts during the week and make the bigger breakfasts (like eggs, pancakes, etc.) for the weekends. Maybe I'm just lazy!
