its just so priceless

Ethan and I are watching A Baby Story (on TLC), which is one of the kid's favorite shows. I've seen this one before so I allowed him to watch the actual delivery, since its not gory or freaky, like some of them can be. :)

The lady is pushing her baby out and you can see the head... Ethan begins to smile (that cute, dimple smile) and looks at me and says "Mommy! You're going to that, but you're going to be the best at it!"
The baby finally comes out (after a little bit of struggle) and Ethan literally begins tearing up... with a huge smile on his face.
He keeps telling me -- "I'm going to watch our baby come out and I will say HI BABY! and then I will say Good job Mommy!"
I say "look at that cute baby" and he replies with "Yeah, but... our baby's cuter."

I know! I love how into it he is. He keeps telling everyone that he's going to watch our baby be born. :) I think, if its a decent hour, he can be there when I'm in labor, but we'll probably have him go out for the actual birth... and then he can come right in. What are your thoughts on kids seeing births? I have several friends that watched their mom many times and it never scared them. :) But... you never know.

Emma used to love to act it out after she would watch A Baby Story... So priceless! (& a little embarrassing!)

I think that with proper preparation (open conversation and viewing of several types of births) that children can be very comfortable with birth and that being present at a birth actually helps to bond the children. My own kids were at our births at 2 1/2, 7 & 4 yrs old. I've known many families with different aged kids who have had thier children attend--always with the child making the final choice to be in the room at baby's emergence or not and always with a person there just for the kids (to answer their questions, to entertain while mom's laboring, to help the kids with thier needs). I've not known any child with a choice to say they wish they hadn't seen the birth. Prepping the kids with knowledge and then giving them the choice in the moment makes a world of a difference. Jozsef opted not to see the actual birth the first time, but did the second time. Nikolas jumped right in. Both look forward to us having more babies. :-) It's priceless. :-)

One Thousandth blog post + GIVEAWAY!!

This marks the  one thousandth blog post   for me !  If you added the blogging over at Jastef.net, I'm sure it would be far more, but I haven't blogged over there since Kara was a baby. For my simple mind, Blogger worked out much better for me. Sorry, husband.  I've been at this blogging thing for almost 8 years and I'm still not sick of it! keeping the sickies away

Probably like most of you Moms, I've been sick of being sick throughout the winter. Its such a fun, holiday time of year and totally stinks when you're stuck inside, with illnesses. And, if you're not a fan of getting a vaccine for every little bug that goes around, you end up realizing you have to do your research to learn how to build up the immune systems and keep your brood healthy. I'm also learning that when it comes to sickness {we're talking sickness that won't cause death}, its actually good for our bodies to learn to fight things off naturally and not constantly running to get shots or drugs to cure us from ever getting sick again {which those shots don't do anyway}.  I'm no pro and my oldest child isn't even 7 yet, so I'm definitely not posting this to teach you ladies anything. And, for those of you with older kids, feel free to leave tips for how you keep your family healthy or natural ways to fight off colds and viruses.  ...
