the firehouse

Several weeks ago we went on a firehouse tour. We did this last year as well, but I'm learning its kind of good to go on these tours once a year, as they grow. I was shocked with how much more stuff they learned and understood, just one year later! Needless to say, we had a blast.

One of the neatest things about this tour was having our tour guides suddenly getting a call and we got to watch them gear up and take the truck out, with sirens and all! They had the kids line up outside behind the white line and then we watched them 'do their thing' and drive off to their call.
We thought it meant our tour was just over -- because they told us previously that they were the only guys there and so they warned us, "if we get called out, you'll have to leave." Lucky for us, some firemen had just returned back from putting out a fire {yes, these guys are amazing} and they jumped out of their gear and finished the tour. Doing a fabulous, detailed job, I might add.

this fireman was so nice. He kept trying to give us
"photo opportunities" with our kids :)

Rachel was really bummed when they said most of the time
women aren't strong enough to past the test to become fire women...
so she went out of her way to hold all the heavy equipment to prove her strength :)

 this ladder was HUGE!!

he showed the kids every last detail on the truck!
I gave these guys major kudos for such a great tour.

this picture made me laugh and I knew my parents would
get a big kick out of it. I have very sensitive ears and when I was
younger, louder noises really hurt my ears/head when they would go off.
So we have tons of pictures of me, in this same position as Rachel...
plugging my ears while watching something loud happen :)

Station 74, thanks for a great tour!

You know, we took the kids to the one in Livermore years ago. I remember this because I really wanted to sit in the driver's seat of the Fire Truck. They let me, but they teased me the whole rest of the time. I am never asking to sit in the driver's seat of a Fire Truck again. Sheesh!

haha! I wanted to, too! But none of the other moms asked or acted interested, so I kept quiet :)
That's too funny.
