just when I needed it...

It broke. My crock pot broke :(
I decided to dig out my Fix it and Forget it cook book for the month of October, making lots of new soups, chilis, breads and oatmeals. Oh, and lets not forget the pot roast. We love those.
When I married into the Arnold family, they passed on a grand tradition of making a big pot roast and then shredding the meat for burritos. Then you use a bunch of odds and ends from the fridge and make the most delicious burritos. My mouth just watered thinking of it.

Anyway, just as I got all ready to make a slave out of my crock pot, it broke!
I wasn't fond of this crock pot, so I'm wondering, if any of you LOVE yours, will you let me know the brand? I'd like to get a better, more reliable and sturdy one. Mine was from Costco... I think I bought it 3-4 years ago.
The lid on mine was always very loose and not secure, the timer didn't ever work accurately and I felt like stuff easily burns to the bottom while cooking. The one in the picture isn't mine, but it looks nice and sturdy, right?!
So let me know if you have one you love! If you can send a link that would be awesome. Thanks!

I have two Rival crockpots (two different sizes), and I have loved both of them. I don't have a link to them right now, but I highly recommend the brand from my personal experience. Neither one has any sort of timer or anything; just simple settings of High, Low, and Warm. I think if I could just change one thing about my crockpots, it would be to have a timer on at least one of them. But I love my Rivals. :)

It sounds like I have the same ones as Melissa. They are Rivals, one is a 5 quart that I inherited from my grandma, and the other is a newer 7 quart. They only have high, low and warm. (The old one only has high and low.) I also wish they had a timer. The appealing thing was the price....the 7 quart one I bought for $18 at Wal Mart. :-)

I used to have a smaller Rival one....a 2 quart, that I would do sauces and appetizer dips in. But I accidentally left caramel sauce in it on high overnight and it cracked. But the good thing was it was only $9 at Wal Mart.

Mine is in bad shape (we seem to abuse all our stuff!), in part because some college boys borrowed it for a chili cookoff. Now it has no button on the front, and it's missing three of its four little screw-on feet on the bottom. Whatever you do, get one of those with the "bumps" for feet instead of screw-on feet. Mine has a very nice plastic/rubber cord to thread across the top and through the handles to secure the lid for transport.

I'm sorry to hear yours broke! I would encourage you to purchase one that has programmable self timer and auto shut off. It's wonderful to throw a meal together, run errands, and come home to a fully cooked meal waiting - still warm. Had a Rival and only lasted two months before it broke. We decided to purchase a KitchenAid and found one on Craigslist. We LOVE it. Happy Hunting!

thanks ladies! Holly and Sarah, thanks for the links and brands. I'll look into those. I've had 3 Rivals and had horrible luck with all of them :(
I do love the timer. Isn't the whole purpose behind crock pots, is so you can leave the house and know they'll turn off when you need them to?

I ordered one off Amazon and the brand is Hamilton Beach - we'll see if I like it!

What a sad sad day!!! I've just started to get back into cooking these last two weeks & all I use is my pot! This is just like the mixer your Mom gave you. Hmmmm, I'm wondering if there's a theme here with you and appliances! ;)

Hope you get your new one fast! 'Tis the season for potting!
