School is in session!

School started at our house today! It came a lot faster than I thought it would. It always makes me laugh because really, life is one big continuing school lesson. Feels weird to say "today we start school", but you know what I mean :)

New books have been arriving in the mail all summer long. Rachel gets so excited every time a new one comes, even if its not for her :)
Ethan is worried that the work is actually getting harder {it is} and understands its going to take more effort and time, which has him less excited than I'd like. With him I struggle with the attitude of, "if it takes too much effort, I'd rather pass." So we're going to work on diligence, hard work and a cheerful attitude through it all.

I'm not keeping a ridged schedule. I'm kind of against those, for personal reasons. We're going to be doing a ton of reading and hands on learning/ field trips and less 'text book' learning.
I'm excited about getting this book in the mail and learning more about that. I can be a bit uptight when it comes to school and I'm thankful for a few dear ladies who've helped me remember its nothing that should be ruined for my kids, but taught in every day life.
We're getting more and more serious about raising chickens, so this book will hopefully come in handy for us learning about that.

We started off our day by getting breakfast sandwiches at Starbucks and eating at the park!

he's teething right now.
The nights are very tough, but he seems relatively happy during the day :)

Gosh, I feel like it was just yesterday I was helping him do these...

hydrangeas in our yard.
They bloomed beautifully this year.

Happy first day of School! We started today too.

And I remember those days of a more relaxed schooling....I go that direction with the younger two, but my older ones need the tighter scheduling, especially if we are putting anything on their transcripts this year!

Have a blessed rest of the week!

Charlotte, I was just telling my friend today, NOW are the years when this is possible. I'm enjoying these early years, knowing that in just a short time, I'm probably going to feel like we ARE a Jr. college :)

We are excited about our school year, too. So much fun ahead!
Poor Ethan. I remember not liking school so much when it got too hard, too. :)

Yay! Gosh, I can't believe Ethan is old enough for 2nd. Love your relaxed, unschooling approach. Life IS school. :) And I may never read your blog again if you get chickens. Serious chicken envy....I want some SO SO SO bad!!!

Ha!!! Just looked at your book link and it IS unschooling! Guess my research is paying off. ;) I definitely lean towards that and mason's approach. I just bought a book on natural journaling that i'm so excited about!!
